DoLo: Securing the Deal, Building Collaborations, Shaping His Brand, and Beyond

Elijah Marlette, known in the music world as “DoLo,” is a rising Hip Hop artist from Compton, California. Born on September 15, 1995, in West Covina, CA, DoLo’s journey into music is as personal as it is profound.

The name “DoLo” isn’t just a stage name; it’s a tribute to a close friend who lost their battle with addiction, a painful experience that deeply impacted Elijah. The name stands for “Defy Odds Live On,” a powerful mantra that encapsulates his resilience and determination to push through life’s darkest moments.

DoLo’s love for music began at a young age. At just five years old, he taught himself to play the piano, laying the foundation for his future in music. His early experiences in band class further developed his musical abilities, eventually leading him to produce beats—a skill that would become central to his artistry.

In 2021, DoLo made his official debut with the EP Defy Odds Live On, a project that marked the beginning of his professional music career. However, it wasn’t just talent that drove him to music; it was a lifeline. During a particularly dark period, music became his salvation. Writing and recording allowed him to channel his emotions and find a way out of a suicidal mindset, solidifying his belief in music as a form of healing.

DoLo’s sound is influenced by a diverse array of artists, from the lyrical depth of Kendrick Lamar to the timeless grooves of The Whispers, Michael Jackson, and Zapp & Roger. His work also carries the modern influences of Lanez and Kanye West, blending Hip Hop, Rap, Pop, and R&B into a unique and authentic musical style.

As a signed artist with the independent label Thicker Than Water, DoLo has already begun making his mark with collaborations alongside artists like Katori Walker, Casey Veggies, Bino Rideaux, 24Hrs, Emanny, and J.Star. He’s also worked with talented producers like Blindforlove, Lano, and Denzel, which has helped him craft a distinctive sound that’s both melodic and harmonic.

One of DoLo’s standout tracks, “Love Me,” featuring Bino Rideaux, exemplifies his willingness to explore new musical territories while staying true to his artistic roots. Looking ahead, he’s eager to experiment further, with plans to incorporate Reggaeton beats into his upcoming projects.

With eyes set on opening for his favorite artists and earning a spot in the 2024 freshman class of emerging talents, DoLo is committed to defying the odds, carving out his musical path, and achieving creative excellence.
